In Ontario, there is no government-issued forklift “license.” The term forklift license is commonly used in conversation, but it is not an official credential under Ontario law. The correct and legally recognized document is a forklift certification.
Under Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), employers are responsible for ensuring that every forklift operator is properly trained and competent before operating powered industrial equipment.
A forklift certification is issued after an operator successfully completes both:
- A written knowledge evaluation
- A practical hands-on forklift assessment
Once training is completed, the operator receives proof of certification that employers can verify and keep on file for workplace compliance.
At Phascorp , successful participants receive:
- A digital certificate of completion
- A plastic wallet certification card
- Same-day proof of training for employers and job sites
In-person is the standard. Online modules can cover the theory portion such as OHSA regulations, equipment types, and load handling principles, but the law requires demonstrated hands-on competency on the actual machine. You cannot prove competency on a 4,500 lb piece of equipment through a screen. Phascorp delivers theory in the classroom and practical on the floor at our different training center, so you walk out evaluated and job-ready.
Yes. Every Phascorp forklift program is hands-on at our two Brampton training centers. You will operate counterbalance forklifts, powered walkies, narrow-aisle reach trucks, and order pickers etc.You will practice driving, manoeuvring, load handling, stacking, and emergency procedures. Hands-on practical training and evaluation is included in every certification.
Our forklift training services are available throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and we also operate nationwide. We provide

You will not be sent home. Our instructors will identify where the gap is, whether it is a control issue, a load-handling step, or a section of the written test, and give you time to review and re-attempt. The retake structure is built into the day so you leave certified. Your instructor will walk you through the process when you arrive.
Most participants complete theory, practical, and evaluation in a single day. Exact timing depends on which equipment you are being trained on and how quickly you get comfortable on the machine. You get unlimited practice time. We do not push you to evaluate until you are ready.
Yes. On the day you pass your evaluation, you receive a digital certificate of completion that you can print immediately, plus a plastic wallet card that you carry to the job site. That is our Same-Day Certification, Unlimited Practice promise.

Three years from the date of issue. After three years you will complete a forklift refresher to renew. This aligns with Ontario OHSA guidance for periodic retraining and with what most employers, including the warehouse and logistics operators we train for, require.
No. Our program is built for complete beginners. Whether this is your first time on a forklift or you are adding a new machine type to your skill set, the instructors will take you through every step, from equipment familiarization and controls through advanced load handling, safe operations and evaluation.
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID, closed-toe footwear with steel-toed boots strongly recommended, work-appropriate clothing (no loose clothing, no open-toe shoes), and a pen and notebook if you take notes during theory. If you have a medical condition that affects equipment operation, let your instructor know before the session begins.
Yes. We provide the personal protective equipment you need at our facility, and the training environment is set up to Ontario workplace safety standards. If you have your own steel-toed boots or hi-vis vest, bring them.
No. Forklifts operate on private property such as warehouses, distribution centres, and manufacturing floors, and they fall under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, not the Highway Traffic Act. As long as you meet the age requirement and can safely operate the equipment, you can enrol in our certification program with or without a driver's license.
At Phascorp , we provide hands-on training across multiple classes of powered industrial trucks and elevated equipment used in warehouses, logistics, manufacturing, and distribution environments.
Our training programs include:
Counterbalance Forklifts — The most commonly used forklift class for loading, unloading, pallet movement, and general warehouse operations.
Powered Walkies / Electric Pallet Jacks — Used for pallet transport, stock movement, and dock work in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and retail environments.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Trucks — Designed for high racking and tight aisle operations in distribution centres, warehouses, and cold storage facilities.
Order Pickers — Used for elevated order picking, inventory handling, and warehouse maintenance tasks where operators must access products at height.
Dock Stockers — Specialized forklifts designed for loading docks and warehouse staging areas. Ideal for moving pallets in confined spaces and accessing low- to medium-height racking.
Turret Trucks — High-density storage forklifts designed for very narrow aisle (VNA) environments. Used to efficiently retrieve and place loads at significant heights in large distribution centres and warehouses.
Aisle Master (Articulated Forklifts) — Versatile articulated forklifts designed to operate in narrow aisles while maintaining the flexibility to work both indoors and outdoors. Ideal for maximizing warehouse storage capacity and improving material handling efficiency.
Elevated Work Platforms (EWP) — Including aerial lifts and elevated access equipment for safe work at heights i.e scissor lift and boom lift.
We also offer training on multiple forklift classifications and machine types based on workplace requirements. Corporate and group training packages are available for companies requiring certification on multiple equipment classes.
Theory covers OHSA regulations, equipment knowledge (types, controls, capacities), safe operating procedures, load handling and stability principles, and hazard identification. Practical covers hands-on driving, manoeuvring, controls, lifting, moving, stacking, and emergency procedures on the actual machine. Evaluation is in two parts: a written test for theory and a practical demonstration on the equipment. Operators who successfully complete both components receive their forklift certification.
Phascorp certifications are valid for three years, so refresher is required at the three-year mark. Refresher is also recommended, and often required by employers, if you have been involved in or witnessed an incident or near-miss, if you have been away from forklift operation for an extended period, or if your workplace, equipment, or regulations have changed materially.
Yes. Under the OHSA and the Ontario Government's Guideline for the Safe Operation and Maintenance of Powered Lift Trucks, employers are legally required to ensure every operator is trained and competent before operating equipment. Untrained operation is a regulatory exposure and a workers' compensation liability. Most warehouses, distribution centers, and third-party logistics providers require valid certification before they will let you on a machine.
