Important Notice: Once certified in part 1, part 2 must be completed within 6 months of part 1 training
Course Summary:
  • As per the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in Ontario, an employer employing 20 or more regularly employed workers must have a Joint Health and Safety Committee consisting of at least two certified members.
  • JHSC’s have a primary responsibility to be proactive in health and safety & identify all hazards the attention of the employer.
  • Upon successful completion of the course, members will be deemed certified under the new MOL
    standards.
  • Certified members will have the knowledge and understanding required to fulfill their legislated duties under the OHS Act.


Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand their role as a certified JHSC member
  • Understand basic roles, responsibilities and rights of workplace parties including JHSC members
  • Understand health and safety legislation, and demonstrate on the use of the legislation
  • Explain basic rights, responsibilities
  • Understand on how a JHSC operating in a workplace
  • Understand & demonstrate basic process of recognizing, assessing, controlling, and evaluating hazard
  • Understand & demonstrate hazard recognition through process of workplace inspections
  • Demonstrate methods of hazard assessment, control, and evaluation
  • Practice recognizing, assessing, controlling, and evaluating hazard controls
  • Understand requirements for investigation of first aid, near misses and accident investigations

Course Summary

  • JHSC Part 2 is a continuation/ part 2 of JHSC part 1.
  • Members must successfully complete Part II of the certification training within six months of completing Part I.
  • JHSC part 2 certification reviews details on conducting hazards assessment and provides certified members with skills to apply corrective actions for identified hazards.
  • Learning Objectives
    By the end of this course, participants will:

    • Review key concepts from JHSC Part I
    • Review process of hazard recognition, assessment, control, and evaluation
    • Apply recognition, assessment, control, and evaluation principles to each hazard
    • Create a corrective action plan, based on assigned case study for hazard assessment.
